Prior to POWERgrass™, and up until the 1960’s, traditional turf-grass was the only option for playing surfaces. For about a half-century since then, traditional turf-grass and artificial-turf were the only two such options, yet neither has ever been perfect. Thus, a longstanding desire for a modern playing surface alternative — one that combines the best of both worlds — persisted.

In 1999, driven by the vision to evolve the playing surface, Dr. Niko Sarris, a Ph.D. agronomist, embarked on the development of an innovative, universally-superior, playing surface that would combine the best attributes of traditional turf-grass and artificial-turf, without any of their drawbacks, and would also be suitable for any location, climate, or playing-use.

Dr. Sarris and his team drew on their practical experience in the field, as well as their scientific expertise.
